6 Herbs for Fat Loss, Increased Energy and Boosting Health That Really Work

Matcha Green Tea Feature Image

What I’m sharing with you today are WHOLE FOODS that (some) are in supplement form that have been used for thousands of years in some cases. Whole food herbs are what I take and will be discussing with you, NOT the ones created synthetically in a lab somewhere. By adding these herbs, I get that boost, that energy, clarity, and extra calorie burn! I’m taken from awesome level to SUPERHERO level. They give me an edge and I like it.

Let’s move on to the first herb and one of my favorites:

Matcha Green Tea Powder

Matcha

Matcha literally means, ‘powdered tea’ and it’s a special form of green tea that is usually grown in Japan.

Unlike traditional green tea where the leaves are infused into hot water via tea bags then discarded, with matcha you’re actually consuming the entire chlorophyll-rich leaves that have been handpicked, steamed, dried and ground into a fine green powder.

Matcha contains EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) a very potent antioxidant. This antioxidant increases fat oxidation by 33 percent. 33% more fat burn just from drinking tea? Oh yeah! EGCG inhibits fat cell development, increases fat excretion, and revs ups your metabolism. That sounds good right?

Matcha tea provides an energy boost without the coffee crash headache thanks to the relaxing properties of L-theanine. L-theanine. counterbalance the “jittery” effects of caffeine.

Cordyceps Medicinal Mushroom Powder

Cordyceps Mushrooms

Cordyceps Mushroom come from an Asian mushroom known as Cordyceps sinesis (C. sinesis), which sprouts from the body of dead caterpillar in the wild. Oh man, the things we’re willing to take to get an edge. Gross I know, but oh so effective.

Cordyceps is categorized as a medicinal mushroom with thousands of years of use in Chinese medicine. This herb is actually growing more and more in popularity as it is being used as a pre-workout supplement and in many athletic competitions.

Oxygen intake is crucial to supplying nutrients to the muscles and preventing fatigue and the buildup of lactic acid. Cordyceps works by improving oxygen circulation. This leads to increase in stamina and endurance.

Studies show that corydceps efficiently increases your insulin sensitivity. The opposite of that is insulin resistance, and a classic sign of having insulin resistance is excess belly fat.

So this medicinal mushroom in CONJUNCTION with sleep, nutrition and exercise will help you to finally burn off that excess body fat.

Cordyceps is what’s called an ADAPTOGEN. Adaptogens are a group of non-toxic, non habit-forming substances that help your body to adapt to your environment. For example, if you’re experiencing a lot of stress, adaptogens help your body adapt to that stress and handle it better. Which is why it works so great as a pre-workout supplement, because working out puts stress on your body and this herb helps your body to better cope and handle that stress.

Ginseng Root

Ginseng

Ginseng is pretty popular and well-known. So much so you can even buy these little vials of ginseng at the gas station. DON’T BUY THOSE! Those suck and are of extremely poor quality.

Ginseng is SUBTLE. Don’t expect to take it and BOOM! Fat melts off of you, you have as much energy as your kid and all your sickness is reversed. Nuh-uh. Sorry.

Ginseng is another adaptogen and it works slowly and steadily. Ginseng has been studied in the Journal of Diabetes and shown to boost energy levels, speed metabolism, increase weight loss, and insulin sensitivity.

I like to take ginseng in the form of tea. You can drink it whenever but I take it right after my run and before my strength training, and it helps to keep me going.

Ceylon Cinnamon Powder

Cinnamon

You probably have this in your spice cabinet!

So this spice is so awesome for regulating your blood sugar levels, and according to the research done at Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, in people with Type 2 Diabetes not only does cinnamon significantly reduce blood sugar levels, but also reduces triglycerides, and LDL levels (bad cholesterol).

Cinnamon is just awesome for the fact that it improves the way your body regulates blood sugar levels. Having stable levels is critical.

I buy my cinnamon in bulk and I add it to my smoothies, cooking, most fruits and if I don’t add it to any of that, I just mix 1/2 tsp to a 1 tsp in a glass of water and I chug it down LIKE A BOSS!

Cayenne Pepper Powder  Cayenne Pepper

I love cayenne pepper so much! Even though people look at me weird when I sprinkle some into my water, I don’t care! I still love it!

More and more supplements are utilizing cayenne in their formulas and for good reason: Cayenne is a good source of Vitamins A, B & C. It contains potassium and manganese.

Cayenne contains capsaicin which is what gives pepper it’s heat, and it has been found to aid the body in digesting and utilizing proteins, regulating body temperature, easing arthritis, promoting weight loss and improving circulation. I mean….awesome sauce right?

According to the American Chemical Society, cayenne has also been found to shrink fat tissue and lower blood fat levels.

One of the reasons it’s so beneficial is because of thermogenesis. Thermogenesis boosts your metabolism and burns calories at a higher level.

All of the above benefits are great and all, but I truly love cayenne because of how great it is for digestion. I have a sensitive digestion system and cayenne promotes the production of anti-inflammatory compounds that start to coat the gut again and to heal internally.

Whenever my stomach hurts, or I have bloating and/or indigestion, a dash of cayenne into a glass of water relieves so much of this pain and discomfort.

Last but no less awesome…

  Cacao Powder and Beans Cacao

In it’s most natural form cacao is a seed.  Everything chocolate comes from a seed and is called cocoa beans.  Contrary to popular belief, chocolate is NOT bad for you. I repeat, it is NOT bad for you! In it’s natural and raw form, chocolate is just banging! It is the processing of it that turns it into shit. In it’s raw form it does not contain any sugar or dairy

Cacao (chocolate) is one of the most delicious and healthy superfoods that exist. Can I get an AMEN on that?! It’s beneficial with PMS symptoms, good for metabolizing glucose, keeping the heart healthy, easing depression and it also helps as a delivery agent for many other superfoods like mushrooms, goji berries and spirulina.

Here’s just a few of the awesome properties of cacao:

  • Magnesium: heart, brain, muscle cramping, elimination, alkaline, bone strength
  • Vitamin C: Supports the immune system
  • Zinc: immunity, liver, pancreas, skin
  • Phenylethlamine: focus, alertness, appetite suppressant
  • Tryptophan: mood enhancing
