Healing Cleanse Green Smoothie

This is by far one of my favourite green smoothies on the planet. I’d say Caleb and I drank this recipe every morning and sometimes more than once a day for at least 6 months straight. This drink is healing for the body on so many levels, so integrate it into your morning routine and alkalize your life! Oh yes and I know usually I only give a hand full of rawesome smoothie facts, but celery just happens to be one of my most favourite vegetables ever so I’ve gotta talk it up a bit extra today :)

Ingredients:

  •  1/2 Head Celery
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1 Cup Cilantro & Parsley
  • 1 Lemon
  • 2 Tbsp Ginger
  • 1/3 Pineapple

3. Celery is a great source for you to get Vitamin C, so use it to boost your immune system and fight off a nasty cold!

4. Celery has calming effects, probably another reason why I enjoy eating it, juicing it and drinking it in smoothies so much!

6. Cucumber can be used for treatment of heart burn.

7. Pineapple cleanses the intestines and the kidneys and promotes a healthy metabolism.

    Hi Sheleana,
This looks wonderful! I don’t own a Vitamix (yet), but I do own a juicer. Which would be most beneficial juice this or in my old-blender?
    Thanks!

    • February 22, 2012 at 10:53 pm #

Hi Melisa! I’d suggest either, depending on what you’re going for. I find green juices give me tons of energy but I stay fuller longer with a green smoothie plus the energy boost. This is really a delicious smoothie, try it as a smoothie first and then you can always juice it later ;) Enjoy *hugs* Love S

Sounds delish! I’ll have to give this a try tomorrow am for breakfast, I’m half tempted to try it tonight after kickboxing, but I won’t get home until almost 10pm, might be too late.

Why isn’t there a print button for these recipes?

    • March 1, 2012 at 7:32 pm #

Hi Valerie :) We’ll work no getting a print button for you but we also highly recommend saving paper as much as possible so sometimes we just take pictures of ingredients or recipes with our iphone, perhaps that’s an option for you as well! *hugs* Love S

    Hey Sheleana!
Can’t wait to try this smoothie. When you add the lemon do you peel it first? Also, do you peel the cumcumber? Thanks a million! :)

    • March 7, 2012 at 11:08 pm #

Hi Jo Ann! I don’t peel the cucumber however if you’re purchasing a conventional (not organic) cucumber, you will want to wash and peel it first. Otherwise, wash and cut the ends of then put it in the blender. There are tons of amazing nutrients in the skins :) *Hugs* Love S

Do you put in the whole lemon, peel and all, or do you just use the juice? Also, what size cucumber is this calling for, and is that 1/3 of a pineapple, or 1/3 cup? I’m new to this! Thanks for this recipe. I’m very excited to try it!

    • April 1, 2012 at 11:24 pm #

Hi Carrie! Welcome :) You peel and deseed the lemon and put it in the blender without peel :) We aren’t very particular with the green smoothies, there’s really no way you can mess up a green smoothie. Use a small- medium sized cucumber and 1/3 of a pineapple (this makes extra that you can jar up and consume through out the day!). Good luck! ~Hugs, Love S

Very tasty! Is this quantity generally for 2 people, or is it meant to be consumed by one person? I’m sure you’ll say that it depends on the person, but…when you two were having it every day together, were you making this amount or double? (I’m new at this — sorry for forcing you to hold my hand! <3)

P.S. I mixed some of this with my baby's cereal and she inhaled it!

Well, that was… interesting. I didn’t realize that you intend this recipe to be made with peeled, de-seeded lemons–I’m hoping that’s the reason mine ended up tasting like a riot of different flavors. Maybe it will mellow a bit if I chill it for a while? I don’t think I’d make it again but I guess I’m glad I tried it.

Quick question: how do lemons create an alkaline environment for the body?

I have been drinking green smoothies for a few weeks and just searched for an arthritis recipe and found yours! THank you so much – can’t wait to try it. My question concerns “shelf life.” A friend with a critically ill husband has been delving deep into nutrition and juicing and is very intense about the need to drink the smoothie right away. She says oxidization kills nutrients really quickly. I find that I tend to make a big batch and save half for the next day and I noticed that you imply that it is okay to drink some later.

Can you give me any guidance on how quickly one must consume the green smoothie to get maximum benefit and how much nutritional degradation is there over the course of say half a day and a full day?

    • January 4, 2013 at 8:11 am #

Hi Elizabeth! There will be some nutrient loss, as any time we process foods and expose them to oxygen we lose nutrients. However, because smoothies retain their fibre, unlike a juice, they tend to be more stable. We tell people that as long as you store your smoothie in a tightly sealed glass jar in the fridge, you should have minimal nutrient loss over a 24 hour period or so :)

Thank you SO much for the answer! Being able to drink some the next day, without feeling like it has lost most of its nutritional value, really helps me out! I appeciate the fast response!
