Love Bananas? Try These 3 Banana Smoothie Recipes!

Bananas are one of our most popular fruits and for good reason. They are loaded with energy and contain an array micronutrients. You’ll have probably heard that bananas are packed with potassium, this helps regulate heart function and lower blood pressure. Bananas are also, of course, soft and delicious, making them a firm favourite for smoothies. Freezing bananas helps to break down their starch content and gives them an ice-cream like consistency! Here are three recipes you can try:

Mean Green Banana Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 small handful of cilantro
  • 1 handful of greens
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 1 cup coconut water or water
  1. Bananas are a good source of iron, and can help prevent anemia.
  2. Cilantro* is highly alkalizing for the body.
  3. Greens contain minerals, which can help support bone and teeth health.
  4. Ginger is highly anti-inflammatory.

‘Banapple’ Basil Smoothie

  • 2 apples, cored and chopped
  • ½ frozen banana
  • 1 cup green leaf lettuce
  • 3-4 basil leaves
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 cup water or coconut water

Many of us are familiar with the old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”, and for good reason. Among the many health-promoting properties, apples notably contain pectin, a type of fiber that acts as a pre-biotic, feeding the good bacteria in the gut.

Soothing Banana Smoothie

  • 2 fresh or frozen bananas
  • 2 heads baby bok choy
  • 1-inch piece ginger root
  • Small handful of soaked almonds
  • ¼ cup parsley
  • 1 cup water or coconut water
  • Optional: 1/4 cup oats

Bananas have a natural anti-acid effect in the body, which can help if you suffer from heartburn. Bananas are also packed with B vitamins that help calm the nervous system if you’re feeling stressed. Being high is potassium, yet low in salt, makes them uniquely capable for reducing blood pressure levels.
