Green Apple Ginger Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple
  • ½ field cucumber
  • 1 cup spinach
  • ⅓ bunch parsley
  • ⅓ bunch cilantro
  • 1-inch piece ginger root
  • 1-2 cups of coconut water or water

Instructions: Wash your produce, core your apple, blend until smooth.

Health Benefits: Apple skins contain a compound called quercetin which behaves in a similar way to antihistamines in the body. If you struggle with allergies, including more apple skins in your diet may help!

Pear and Greens Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 celery rib
  • ½ field cucumber
  • 1 pear
  • 1 frozen banana
  • ⅓ bunch parsley
  • 1 cup water or coconut water

Instructions: Wash your produce, core your pear, blend until smooth.

Health Benefits: Did you know that the combination of celery and cucumber creates a complete protein?  That means that you are getting all the essential amino acids that you need through your food, because your body cannot produce them on its own.  We used to think that getting a full range of amino acids from a plant-based diet took very careful and meticulous food combining, but now we know that the body is able to make its own proteins as long as you consume adequate amino acids over the course of a week. You can do this by making sure that you are eating a wide range of foods in adequate amounts for your body and activity levels.

Tropical Mint Cooler

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pineapple
  • 1 cup mango
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 handful mint

Instructions: Wash your produce, core your pineapple and pit your mango.

Health Benefits: Mint is very cooling, and can be applied directly to irritated, inflamed skin (with no open wounds). Mint also acts as a blood cleanser, helping to remove impurities from your bloodstream.
