Does Focusing on Weight Loss Make You Less Spiritual?

spiritual weight loss If you see a girl with a beautiful fit body and you instantly feel ‘I want to look like her!’ should you try to ignore it and love your body the way it is? Or should you aim to become like her? Is it just about the vanity?

Most of us, women, have had these similar thoughts: will I not be spiritual if I focus on the outside? Is it OK to admit that I want to feel attractive and look amazing? If I don’t fully like my body, does it mean I don’t love myself?

Have you ever felt these mixed up emotions of envy and the desire to change yourself, when you see an absolutely gorgeous girl with a beautiful figure? You feel bad about yourself because you’re not in top shape, and not as confident. At the same time, you feel inspired to change your body, perhaps start eating healthier and exercising.

But then another thought might come up: Oh, I shouldn’t feel this way. I should accept my body and love it as it is.

So, should you ignore your emotions and desires? If you ask me, the answer is no.

Emotions are here to guide us. They’re here to serve us and keep us on track on our life path.

You may feel envy when you look at a girl with a beautiful slim body, but truly it’s not the body that you want. It’s the experience of having that body that you so crave.

So ask yourself: why do I truly crave it it?

It’s probably because you imagine that when you have a fit healthy body you feel more vibrant, energized, more confident and feel more attractive and free. You can wear the clothes that reflect your personality and can fully express yourself.

That may not be the case for every single person. But it was for me, and I know it is for a lot of people. Excess weight was something that was holding me back and preventing me from expressing myself fully.

Think of it this way. You are not your body. You have a body. Same as you’re not your car, you have a car. A car makes it easier to get from where you are to where you want to go. Similarly with your body, it helps you express your spirit through speaking, dancing, singing, laughing. It helps you communicate with others and experience the joys of this physical reality.

As you take care of your car, you should also take care of this vehicle – your body. Except that if your car breaks down, you can replace it. And as far as I’m aware, you cannot replace your body. You get only one copy per lifetime.

So how can you use this in your life?

1. First, take a step back and ask yourself: are you are spirit who has a body or just a human made of flesh and bones? It’s my belief that I am a spirit and my body is my tool and an amazing gift that empowers me to experience this world. If you share the a similar view, then

2. Think of how your spirit could express itself better if you had perfect health and the body of your dreams.

3. Ask yourself what can you do today, this week and this month, in order to get closer to your perfect health and your dream body.Write it down and make a decision to commit. It’s worth it!

4. Weight loss is not about vanity as long as it’s not just for the sake of having a fit body to show off. Look at weight loss as simply removing the blocks that are holding you back from being your true authentic self.
